Book Review: The Girl in The Steel Corset

The Girl in The Steel Corset by Kady Cross. This is my favourite book. It brings a whole new meaning to "steampunk" for me. The story kicks off in England, 1897, where sixteen-year-old Finely Jane has no one except for the evil "thing" inside her. When an improper young lord tries to take advantage of Finley , she fights him and leaves him half-dead on the floor. But no normal Victorian girl should be able to knock a man out with one punch. But Finley isn't normal. Only the young Duke of Greythorne, Griffin King, sees the darkness inside her as and sees her as one of them . Griffin offers to care for her and help her understand her powers. She soon finds out that the young duke and his friends also posses some unique powers. Sam is part robot and incredibly strong, Emily who can talk to machines, Jasper an American cowboy with an ugly secret and Griffin himself who can control the "aether". Then there's Jack Dandy, the master of manipulations (with some relation to Jack the Ripper)who has taken to Finley, which Griffin isn't to happy about. Griffin's investigating a criminal called The Machinist, the mastermind behind several recent crimes by automatons. Finley thinks she can help and finally be a part of something, finally fit in, but The Machinist is set on destroying Griffins motley crew.

I really, really love this book. I would recommend it for both boys and girls (as it's from different points of views aka Finley and Griffin) 14+. It contains violence, themes and a bit of language but overall an amazing read.
