Book Review: The Girl In The Clockwork Collar

The Girl In The Clockwork Collar by Kady Cross. This book was amazing. I read this book a while ago (before the first book The Girl In The Steel Corset) and it was even better the second time! Finley Jayne was awesome again in this book, Griffin was okay but Sam and Emily seemed to take the backseat. It would've been great to see some of Jack Dandy but that's nit-picking. I did love the complex backgrounds of each of the characters and gripping plot. I did think it was a bit over the top with Jasper being lugged off to New York and being a the centre of two love triangles, really. What Jasper really brought to the book was Mei. Mei Xing (I know, her name is practically "mazing", as in a-mazing)  was fun. I won't go into to detail as it might just spoil the book. In 1897, 16 year-old Finley Jayne and her friends travel to New-York to rescue their friend, Jasper Renn, who was hauled off by bounty-hunters two weeks earlier. But Jasper is prisoner of an old friend, the menacing Dalton, who demands a trade: give him the strange device Jasper stole from him or the girl Jasper loves, Mei, dies. One wrong move and the clockwork collar around Mei's neck tightens. Finley and her friends, Griffin, Sam and Emily, are on Jasper's elusive trail, but can Griffin balance Finley's dark side with her good? Griffin is also at war with himself over his secret attraction to Finley and Sam is tested by the Irish Emily. To help Jasper, Finley must infiltrate Dalton's criminal gang, but maybe she likes the dark side a little too much. What happens when someone you love becomes a weapon to use against you?

An epic book filled with betrayal, love, danger, thrills, double-crossing and a lot of laughs along the way. I recommend it for both boys and girls aged 14+. I t contains violence, themes and mild language. The perfect book if you're looking for a thrill.
